Head of the Iranian Judiciary, Sadegh Amoli Larijani, defended the state of house arrest imposed on the Green Movement leaders

At his weekly meeting with Judiciary officials in Tehran, Head of the Iranian Judiciary, Sadegh Amoli Larijani, defended the state of house arrest imposed on the Green Movement leaders since 2011. “A group of people have started going here and there, saying in the media and in gatherings, that this house arrest is against the law. They are severely mistaken, the house arrest is not against the law at all. The issue of house arrest was approved by the National Security Council. I was there. It was decided based on the best interests [of the state]. Those who see the Constitution and bring up the issue of the right to a trial stipulated in the Constitution, which is accurate, must see the entirety of the Constitution. We cannot accept one article and abandon the rest…we have no problems in putting them on trial, and we are not afraid of anyone. We consider their cases brimming with sufficient charges. At the appropriate opportunity and time, when we have permission, we will put them on trial based on [orders from] the National Security Council, and we have no problems. However, we feel that the issue pertaining to this case is not judicial. They are preparing for another sedition. They couldn’t advance it from there, so they want to pursue it through a channel and path that, thank God, the regime will not give them a chance to do it.”
